Headhunter review

Headhunter is a fun physics based iPhone game where you flick decapitated heads into a set of various pockets called shrines to score points. Yes we said heads and not balls. To get prestige in your headhunter pirate society, you have to pile captured heads into shrines. As the developer Rabbit vs. Robot describes it, its like basketball meets pinball meets Pachinko, but with shrunken heads. Or as we like to say, sort of like being at a pirate carnival.

Heads start rolling on the ground, responding to the iPhone’s accelerometer, and you toss them up like basketballs by dragging a path on the iPhone screen. As the heads are flying you can tilt your iPhone left or right to have the heads move in that directions. Once a head is airborne you can tap and drag it again which activates some magic stars that help float and bounce the head around. Each level starts with a quota of the number of heads you have to put into the set of available shrines before the timer runs out. Once you meet the objective you unlock higher scoring heads and new levels.

The camera zooms and pans around on the screen as you play. Initially you will see the entire playing field and where your targets are. When the game starts your view is zoomed in and you only see your immediate surroundings. This means you have to kind of know where your platforms are and or guess where to throw your heads based on memory, which adds to the complexity.

The graphics in HeadHuter are polished, retro and colorful with a 3D background style. The game comes with crisp sound effects and a thumped tribal soundtrack that matches the game’s look and feel. The game uses OpenFeint for online scores and . HeadHunter from Rabbit vs. Robot is definitely a buy and keep iPhone game that has high replay value, a unique theme, and great use of physics. Have fun and try not to loose your heads.
