That Ain’t It! Movie Trivia review

Do you consider yourself a movie buff? If so, challenge yourself with IMAK Creations’ new iPhone app, That Ain’t It! Movie Trivia (sadly, all monetary winnings are fake). Similar in format to their That Ain’t It! Trivia game app, you are presented with a question and four possible answers, out of which you choose the one that doesn’t fit. In Game Show Mode, you are given 10 questions, 4 lifelines, $1, and an easy question to start with. Tap the category wheel to spin it, and you will get 30 seconds to answer each question. There are three levels of questions–easy, medium, and hard–and you advance a level every time you answer two questions correctly (going down a level if you answer two questions incorrectly). When you answer an easy question correctly, you double your winnings; medium questions give you four times your winnings, and hard questions five times. The game saves your progress, which is a good thing when $250,000 is needed to unlock the Speed Trivia mode. During the Speed Trivia part of the game, you have two minutes to earn as much money as you can (categories are randomly generated).

With 777 possible questions in eight different categories, there is a very nice mix of questions that you’d be presented with; chances are, you won’t get a question twice. There are also six player profile slots, so that you can keep your earnings and let your friends play, too. You have the option of posting your scores on the global leaderboard, to see how you compare to other silver screen enthusiasts. However, this game is suited for casual viewers as well, as you don’t lose money when you answer incorrectly–and the questions include movies up to the year 2008, impressively enough. The graphics aren’t anything special, and there is appropriately cheesy background gameshow music playing throughout (which you can turn off), but the beauty in this game app lies in its game show-esque appeal. So roll up your sleeves, do some serious IMDb research, and don’t forget to use those lifelines!
