Game Table review

Game Table is an iPad app that does exactly what the name implies. It gives the pieces and cards you need to play 4 popular games including Poker, Reversi, Chess and Checkers on your iPad with other friends. Game Table is not a game per-se at all, nor does it have any artificial logic built into it to simulate nor enforce any rules of the games it holds. It really is just the pieces, and it is up to you to do what you will to play the games. Its basically like buying a digital version of one of those all-in-one board game packs from your local game shop.

Now while you can’t use Game Table to play games against the CPU/iPad in single player mode, you do have a nice little game table that you can use at your next party, get together, gathering or break to challenge a fellow friend to a quick game.

What’s nice about Game Table is all the iPad gestures it supports. Depending on the game you’re playing you can drag and drop any board piece anywhere you want, which is a free flowing style. For example in the poker game you basically have an open table, where you can deal cards to anyone sitting around the iPad anywhere they are. Now using double tap, pinch, two finger tap and two finger swipe, you can do things like flip the card, pile cards together, and reshuffle the deck.

In Checkers double tapping lets you king your checker, in Reversi you’re responsible for flipping your pieces after each capture. The chess game allows for chaning the board from wood to marble, and you can tap to flip the board view so you can see the chess pieces right side up.

Sounds are pretty basic, but the graphics are super sharp and exciting to look at in Game Table. Game Table is a good value for the $0.99 price and if you’re looking to host a poker party or get together it’s an excellent way to engage your friends onto your iPad for some fun. I really hope they would add more games to the pile though. Backgammon, a basic deck of cards for other card based games would be excellent additions in the next revision. Also the Chess graphics could use a revamping to bring them up to 3d levels.
