The human body has always been a fascinating subject for me. Anatomy and physiology is so complex and intriguing, how could you not want to know how your body works? Miniatlas Anatomy is an app crammed with facts about the innermost workings of our bodies. It is brought to us by ec-europe, costs $5.99, and can be used on an iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.
If there is one word I would use to describe this app it is detailed. There is nothing left to the imagination between the comprehensive texts and the accompanying meticulous and labeled drawings. The app is very organized and broken down into Chapters, Images, Search, and About. There are 13 chapters with numerous subchapters for each chapter. Miniatlas is incredibly straightforward and easy to use. In the Images section there are hundreds of options to choose from and each subdivision comes complete with a text excerpt. If you want to know what the Ovarian follicle or testicle blood flow looks like the Images section has you covered.
The Miniatlas Anatomy iPhone app comes with the option to email any of the chapters or images to a friend. I don’t know if you have noticed this, but it seems like, whether you are a doctor or nurse or not, friends tend to ask you for medical advice. At least once a month someone will ask me, “where is the appendix?” Why would I know that? Anyway, owning this app with its capability to email any part of it to a friend will cut out a lot of time-consuming Wikipedia research. A great way to use this feature may be to email an ex-boyfriend the female genital organs excerpt found in the Images Section. I am not sure if this application was originally intended for med students but I find it useful on an everyday basis. I am not a hypochondriac; I just enjoy being very in tune with my anatomy.
Miniatlas Anatomy provides its user with a wealth of knowledge about every aspect, big or small, of the human body. I am not sure how handy it would be to the average person whose interests don’t include our biological make-up, but it is a wonderful reference tool.
