Cahoots is a group chat app for the iPhone with push notifications. To use Cahoots, create a group with any name and invite other users to join. Everybody in the group is immediately notified of a new message, and all can participate in the chat. Messages are received even when the Cahoots app is closed via push technology. Cahoots is good for chatting at work with colleagues, or with groups of friends or family and can be a good alternative to conference calls and or SMS messaging.
The downsides: Everybody in the group must have the Cahoots app which costs 2 bucks a pop. Push notifications will only be received when you are connected to a wi-fi network if you are an iPod touch user.
