Everyone gets stuck sometimes. With Stuck, you can see just how everyone is stuck too. An innovative combination of geo-mapping (think Google Maps) and status updating (think Twitter), Stuck sticks the updates on a globe so not only can you see who else in your general vicinity is in a rut, but also who halfway across the world is feeling that thing they feel. You can zoom in the globe down to the localized map of the area, which is pretty neat.
Posts can be Twitter-integrated and can be custom typed or chosen from a set of pre-written ones. Stuck categories are set in categories and mood so whether you’re annoyed that you have that one song stuck in your head or happy that you’re stuck in the snow with your lover, you’ll be able to tell everyone.
There is no registration right now and while you can post your name and a photo, there doesn’t seem to be a way to find out more about other stucks you see. Because of that, this seems to be less of a networking type of app and more of a social experiment type of app. Also interesting is that Stuck seems to have been made by developed by a company that sells auto insurance, so whether it is a veiled ploy at advertising or an idea that rose out of automotive-induced strandedness is still to be seen.
Dubious origins and promotional tactics aside, the concept behind Stuck could actually be seen as fairly interesting anthropological foray into our technological society. Combining some of the most magnetic parts of the internet, Stuck provides a forum where people share otherwise menial aspects of their lives and in effect may even gain a sense of camaraderie in being stuck together. Stuck is an app with quite an intriguing concept and a lot of potential. I’m looking forward to seeing what direction the developers will take it in and since it’s free, I’d definitely recommend keeping an eye on it.
