Make sure you turn up your volume while playing this marble shooter. Sparkle HD from 10tons Ltd brings the popular Sparkle game from the iPhone to the iPad with bigger, faster and more colorful orbs and levels. The back story behind Sparkle is a little vague but it basically is about you saving Crowberry Woods from evil darkness. The iPad version has fine tuned sharp graphics, smooth gameplay and the soundtrack created by Jonathan Geer which is nothing short of a masterpiece.
You can play Sparkle HD in Quest, Challenge or Survival modes. In quest mode you work your way through a glowing line of lights on a day based map as you use your 5 lives. Gamplay involves firing orbs from the center towards a snakelike train of incoming multi-colored orbs that twist and turn towards the middle. Knocking orbs off can temporarily stop the band of marbles from moving forward. Each level has a new path format and background. Match 3 or more to remove them from the chain and avoid the incoming orbs from reaching your center hole in the ground. For consistent play, you get rewarded with multiple types of power-ups during the game that can help wipe a larger amount of orbs in various ways. To fire your orbs you just tap on the line of orbs where you want your shot to land. You have 3 orbs in your possession at all times and you flick up or down to toggle between the colors if you need to. Achievements in the form of Amulets help to attract more power-ups, get rid of orbs faster and generally protect you while fighting. You unlock new ones every once in a while and you can wear only 1 amulet at a time.
The challenge mode is where you try to finish levels as fast as you can. There are 11 levels to choose fom in challenge mode and each comes with 4 levels of difficulty to master. Finally in survival mode you’ll start as an apprentice, and work your rank up to journeyman, expert and master. Moving up a rank requires for you to finish 5 levels in the previous rank.
Overall Sparkle HD is a nice casual game for the iPad and is great for quick time passing fun. It can probably be fun for both kids and adults as well, due to its easy to use interface and entertaining soundtrack.
