As if you needed further confirmation that Japan has the market cornered on all things “cute,” B3 United Inc. comes along and develops MewMew Tower (or TumiNeko in Japanese). Yes, it is as cute as it sounds. Your sole objective is to stack cats in a tower as high as you can (nevermind that you’d never ever be able to attempt a semblance of this in real life).
Be aware that in order to play this game, I had to change my iPod Touch’s default language to Japanese. I really see no reason for this, as all instructions are in both Japanese and English anyway, but as long as you know where your language settings are, you should be fine.
The instructions are quite simple: tap and drag a cat from the hot air balloon in the right-hand corner down to the floor. Then repeat, except this time place the next cat on top of the first one. And so you should proceed…you can only stack cats vertically, so there’s no point in trying to put one anywhere else. The cats come in small, medium, and large sizes, so stacking them straight won’t be an easy task; you can tilt your device to help the balance, which gets more precarious the higher you stack ’em.
MewMew Tower is a game app that you’d pull out for a short bit of distracting fun, because although it is awesomely cute–from the bright, cartoony graphics to the meowing sound effects–there’s just not much to it other than stacking. (For serious competition, check out MewMew Tower2 for global ranking and more social features.) The physics aren’t the best, but for $0.99 you could do a lot worse. Also, be sure to pay attention to the protesting mews of the smaller kitties when nearly flattened by a larger one. Precious!
