Isometric exercises focus on small parts of your body and work out those spots with static contractions to help strengthen the joints and muscles there. Tierra Virtual S.L.’s Abdominals At Work guides you through an isometric workout of your abs while sitting at your desk at work, home, or just about anytime you’re on your butt.
Under Settings, set your time–anywhere from one minute to thirty minutes–and hit start to begin your work out. Every ten seconds, the app either vibrates or chimes, and depending how you started, you either contract or release your abdomen muscles. These signals remind you to contract your muscles while you’re doing other tasks at the same time. Do this every day and you’ll be on your way to stronger abs! The app keeps track of your progress under the Stats tab, so you don’t have to.
Despite these cute functions, AbsAtWork is a very basic app. It doesn’t go beyond reminding you when to contract and release your abdominal muscles while you’re busy with something else; it’s really just a glorified timer. Unless you’re very determined to maintain a steady rhythm while performing isometric exercises, this app doesn’t offer much to the average office athlete. I’d recommend going out and getting some fresh air instead.
