Layar is the next in the series of augmented reality apps for the iPhone. Browsing through the camera lens the Layar iPhone app can show you real estate information, locate popular bars and shops, touristic information of the area, play a live game and more. Having combined these many different pieces of information, gives Layar its name, because it is basically the equivalent of web pages layered over the real world using the iPhone’s built in camera. So you might say that Layar is literally a world+web browser. Use it to explore, stay informed and have some fun.
Users find a layar and hold up the iPhone which uses the camera display view to point out points of interest. Layar uses filters to let you fine tune what actually gets displayed on the screen. Tap the settings button to change your filter settings. If you want old school listings Layar also gives you a map and list views to see all points in one screen. As with most GPS enabled apps, you need to have the iPhone 3GS to get the real experience. Layar is a free app so if you have an iPhone 3GS, be sure to try it out.
