iTrends review

iTrends is a free twitter iPhone app with only one purpose, to tell you “What’s trending on twitter and why?” Opening the app gives you a list of trending topics. Tap any one to see the explanation for why its popular. Here you can also do some other cool things, like see actual tweets on this topic, read Google News articles containing that topic, or do a Google Search on that topic. In addition to trends, you can add your own search terms to keep tracks of on Twitter by entering a keyword. You can also do saved topics for users with the @ reference to follow anyone’s Twitter updates. Tapping any saved topic loads the latest tweets on that topic.

So if you’re just looking for updates on what’s going down in the world as reported by Twitter users this is a simple and effective app to have on your iPhone. It doesn’t let you post tweets or manage your account, so if that’s what you’re looking for check out Tweetie or the many other Twitter apps out there. You can hide topics with hash tags if you only want the real newsy updates. It would be nice if iTrends offered push notifications with a way to have new topics or your saved topics pushed to your iPhone. Overall iTrends is a terrific source for social news updates and serves its purpose effectively.
