PwnageTool 4.1.2

PwnageTool, version 4.1.2 for Mac OS X has been released by the Dev-team which can now happily patch and jailbreak a series of devices including: iPhone (3G, 3Gs, 4) iPod touch (3G, 4G), iPad, and AppleTV 2G.

You can use PwanageTool to jailbreak your idevices given you have a customized firmware file for your device. Just search for “custom ipsw” + your device name on Google. The way PwanageTool works is by basically wiping the stock iOS firmware on your device and replacing it with a customized (hacked/jailbroken) version of the firmware. SO to use the PwnageTool app you need to have a matching custom .ipsw file for your device already.

A word of caution when looking online for custom ipsw files: Make sure you don’t just use stock ipsw files if you’ve already jailbroken, as this will reset your device to factory defaults. When looking for custom IPSW files you’ll find “activated” and “unactivated” files. Activated means the firmware doesn’t require a sim card to activate the phone. Unactivated firmwares require your carrier’s simcard to activate them.

The newest members to the party are AppleTV 2G owners who want to jailbreak their device. There are already a few apps available for jailbroken ATV2G devices including aTV Flash black which gives your Apple TV a web browser.
