Wine connoisseurs will want to check out iVinophile, a wine cataloging app. Physalia, the same developer that created iDesserts (a native French app), had originally set out to develop a wine tasting and cellar management software for Mac and though that product never came to fruition, with the onset of handheld data technology like the iPhone, he realized that it would be the perfect platform to reinvent his initial ideas into what is now iVinophile. Released in English, iVinophile allows you to record wines youcome across with detailed notes from wine manufacturing details like the winery, region, year, color and price to tasting details such as when and where, with what, its appearance, smell, taste. You can add wines you like to a Wish List or to your Favorites. In addition to being able to record wines you stumble upon, you can also catalog wines you already own and even register their location in your wine cellar.
You have the option of filling out the details as basic or as thorough as you desire, which really makes this an ideal app for anyone from the novice wine taster to the winemaker himself. For the newbie, this app could also be handy in learning what to identify when evaluating a wine. The wine vocabulary can really help familiarize a novice with the language.
The phrasing of directions and notations within the app may seem a little unusual and that’s because the developer is native to France, however everything is definitely clear enough to understand and the oddity of it was not a point of irritation for me.
iVinophile is currently in the App Store. Check it out if you’ve been looking for a handy way to record and enhance your wine tasting experiences.
