Waveboard is the first unofficial iPhone app to provide the Google Wave functionality for the iPhone developed by holtwick.it and available for purchase in the App Store for 99 cents. So why would you want to buy an app that basically just shows you the web based version of the Google Wave mobile app? The upcoming advertised push notification feature could possible be the reason you would buy this app.
WaveBoard is just basially a simple user interface to the Google Wave web based mobile website. WaveBoard opens link within an internal web browser and can be used in portrait and landscape mode. Shake the iPhone to get to the logout and reload pages. You can see your waves and also do searches, manage your waves and start new waves.
The current version of WaveBoard doesn’t support push notifications out of the box, although the developer has already submitted the new version to the App Store that does give you the ability to receive push notifications from the Waveboard robot at xwaveboard.appspot.com, so look out for the new version in the coming days. Other new features include a “Quick Inbox” that quickly loads your list of most recent waves after you run WaveBoard. The new version will also remember your Google username and password, and removes the shake feature as it won’t be needed.
If you’re an early adopter of Google Wave and are looking for some way to use it on your iPhone, take a look at WaveBoard. It’s not official and doesn’t really offer too much in the way of added value features but it works.
Update: For the record, another unofficial iPhone app simply called “Google Wave” was also just released by CLapps which probably will be renamed or yanked out pretty soon due to its literal use of the name.
