Most people don’t really give the moon much consideration in their everyday lives. If it’s especially prominent, there may be quick glances and murmured remarks about how big the moon is tonight, but generally that’s about it. But the moon is responsible for the tides–and for an entire culture, a yearly calendar–so it wouldn’t hurt to give it a little more thought. Lifeware Solutions has the perfect app for those of us who want a way to keep track of that ever-changing satellite.
DeluxeMoon has a number of different features, and some you probably haven’t even thought of. This app utilizes your device’s GPS automatically, or you can set a location by inputting custom coordinates under Options. The first thing you’ll probably notice upon launch is the huge moon graphic right in the middle of the screen. This graphic will change as the days change (which you can manually manipulate by tapping the arrows at the top, or the week to set a custom date), showing the moon in its phase at the date set. If you drag your finger across the moon graphic, you can see it waxing and waning as the days fly by.
The times set at the bottom will tell you when the moon will rise and set, and when it will be at its peak. If you tap anywhere on that space, a page featuring a moon compass will be displayed, along with azimuths. Again, tap the arrows at the top to change the date. The two graphics to the sides of the moon graphic on the main page tell you how much of the moon is illuminated (%) and what zodiac sign the moon is in, respectively. Tapping on the percentage will bring up a full monthly calendar displaying the moon phases for each day; tap on a day to see the percentage, or double tap to insert a note about your day. Tapping on the zodiac sign will bring you to a triple dial of constellations for three types of zodiacs: tropical, sidereal, and astronomical (tap on the ? button to real more about these). Tapping on the stars button (under the Moon Phase text) will take you to the Moon Forecast for both the moon day and the zodiac. This page is also accessible from the main page by tapping the same button.
Suffice to say, there is a lot about the moon that most people don’t think about, or bother to look into. But with DeluxeMoon, you can have it all, from the technical data to the astrological suppositions–I can track both the moon phases and how it possibly affects my moods. It appeals to both sides of my brain, and for that, this app is already a winner. On top of that, it features absolutely gorgeous realistic graphics and a great design, considering all the information that it’s packed in. I love that even with all the technical jargon, the developers don’t assume that you already know what they’re talking about and have helpful guides posted throughout to ease you into this wonderful, mysterious world. Some would say that $0.99 seems to be a fantastic bargain for all this information, and I would definitely agree.
