Super Monkey Ball 2 review

Super Monkey Ball 2 has been released by SEGA for the iPhone. Ready? Go!

If you’re not familiar with the series, its an accelerometer powered racing game that originally was released for GameCube and Wii and then became a smash hit with the release of the iPhone as the first version called Super Monkey Ball ($3.99) was released a couple years back.

Super Monkey Ball 2 picks up the pace and features an animated monkey in a ball that rolls around and captures bananas and aims for a target at the end of 3D ramps with mind bending camera angles. Super Monkey Ball 2 is pushing the iPhone physics based gaming experience to the limit with action packed colorful ramps, a professional soundtrack, original sound effects and most importantly lots of heart pumping addictive action packed fun. And to make it even sweeter this second installment adds multiplayer support for upto 4 people (within your one WiFi area only). Now if you can only find enough people who’ve bought the game. Perhaps after the 10 dollar price goes down you’ll find more of them around.

Play SMB2 using one of 4 characters (Aiai, MeeMee, Baby, and GonGon) in 115 different challenging tracks. The game using tilt based controls which work quite well on the iPhone and feel nice and responsive, and has been made more usable than the original Super Money Ball app had a chunk of people complaining about the controls being too sensitive.

Want more? You also get 3 mini games including Monkey Bowling, and Monkey Target and Monkey Golf to be released next year. Note that the mini games are not online, and they do require you to touch and flick the iPhone screen to play them, much like other popular games like Skee-Ball.

The graphics are near perfect and the gameplay and controls have finally come to the point of being usable. So if you’re looking for a fun and challenging little game to whip out when you feel like wasting some time on your iPhone, Super Monkey Ball 2 is a great choice.
