Concolor

Concolor is a simple reflex game. Released by Studio Yume, the object of the game is to test your reflex skills by co-tapping the randomly appearing small buttons with their larger counterparts. Depending on the level of difficulty you select, you have between 2.0 to 1.0 seconds to match the two buttons, with an additional progressive difficulty where the time interval progressively decreases from 2.0 – 0.5 seconds.

There are two modes to play, normal, where you try to get as much hits as you can before messing up, and time trial, where you try to get as much hits as you can within a 3:00 minute limit. There is also an Insane mode you can turn on or off. When Insane mode is on, it means you will lose if you miss even one combo, even if you are on timed trial.

For games with such rudimentary objectives like Concolor, a subtle hint of competition may be essential in bolstering their general appeal. Following their initial release, Studio Yume perhaps wisely added OpenFeint functionality to its game, enabling the option of submitting scores onto global and local leaderboards.

Concolor is a really straightforward game and as such, it’s nice to see that Studio Yume didn’t sidestep its way around good design principles. The wooden texture of the background/playing area and the game’s typeface simulates text that was laser engraved onto a board and with the smooth, easy jazzy guitar melodies in the background, Concolor gives off a little vibe that makes me think of sitting on my porch leisurely playing an actual board game.

You probably won’t have to worry about losing hours on the game being as basic as it is, but for that same reason, you might find Concolor ideal, like in situations where you only have a bit of time to kill and don’t want to get too involved in a game. If you’re interested, Concolor is in the AppStore for $0.99.
