Giant Moto

Giant Moto is a brand new game from the developers at Rocket 5 Project. It’s pretty much the closest you’ll get to an arcade game of this type without leaving your iPhone.

You have six different tracks to choose from, and a basic outline of each track to preview before you start riding on it. Choose from racing solo, or versus. If you choose versus, there are three different levels of difficulty to race in: easy, normal, and hard.

You might guess how to play this game if you’ve spent any time in the arcade; avoid the mud patches- they’ll slow you down, and aim for the booster pads- they’ll launch you. You have the option of boosting yourself, but remember to let go of the boost while you’re in mid-air, or else you’ll overheat (there’s a boost temp. on your screen). The controls are easy to use, and clearly laid out on the screen. You can also tilt your phone to help you take off on jumps and ease you down upon landing them. Just before you start your race a diagram of the controls appears while your game is loading to remind you of everything.

Even through you’re playing on a small screen, the controls and boost temperature don’t block too much of the track, as most games of this type seem to do. Rocket 5 Project built in music for you to enjoy (or you can turn it off if you don’t enjoy it), vibration, and sound effects as well.

I was a little surprised that the developers didn’t give us the option of changing the view. Since you can pretty much customize everything else in the game, I thought I would have the option of switching my view to a better one. As it is right now, you’ve a got a view of your racer slightly from the side and behind. I would have preferred to view it from behind the bike, so I could steer better. The graphics are terrific, and everything is big enough to see; your lane, the booster pad, the mud puddles. All in all, Rocket 5 Project did a pretty good job at making Giant Moto fun to play on such a small screen.
