LilRacerz Pro Rally review

Thrilling speeds, dangerous competition, and expensive, finely tuned machines–is there any question as to why racing cars is a popular sport? Aside from the actual sport, racing comes in many other forms as well: namely, video games. If you can’t actually get into a machine and make it go 200 miles per hour, why not simulate it instead? Blast One’s LilRacerz Pro Rally is a game app that allows you to do just that.

There are 17 different tracks (with 4 environments) and 9 different cars, most of which you need to unlock before you can access them to race. To unlock new tracks and cars, win the races that are available to you; you also win money, which you can use to buy upgrades for your car. The actual game is played in top-down view, and the controls are laid out on the bottom of the screen. Steering left and right are found on the left side, and the accelerator and brakes on the right. Above the accelerator is a button for Turbo boosts, for when you need a little extra speed going down a straightaway. A nice extra function is the ability to drift, done by holding down the steering arrows.

LilRacerz (really, I thought we’d moved past substituting z’s for s’s) is a straightforward racing game, but still manages to be fresh with cool graphics and surprisingly tough gameplay. The controls are responsive–if only I could say the same for my response time–and the music is upbeat, perfect for speeding around a track. There are great little touches, such as spectators running for their lives (and sometimes not succeeding) and ramps. The AI competitors are pretty smart, but I’d love to see a multiplayer function, so I can race my friends. All being said, LilRacerz is a great game to spend your $0.99 on: it’s not easy to master, and has enough options and tracks to keep your interest.
