Goby review

It’s 5 o’clock, and it’s Friday. Time to rush out of work, hop on the freeway, and sit in traffic for the next hour. Your only source of solace lies in the fact that the weekend is finally here and you get to have fun. At last you get home, get dressed, drink a few cups of coffee and your ready to go out! Once you meet up with your friends, someone always asks the inevitable question, “So, what do you want to do tonight?” Then comes the next one, “Uh, I don’t know, what do you want to do?” This could go on for a while. While your friends frantically search through their Yelp app, your new source of solace comes from your iPhone app, Goby.

Goby does the dirty work of gathering all events that are taking place in your specified area; all you need to do is pick and choose. There are four categories: things to do, food and drink, events, places to stay, and Goby’s featured category, winter fun. You have the option of filtering the distance in which you’d like to search for things to do, see, and experience; all the way from “close” (¼ mile), to an “adventure” (25 miles). If you don’t want to scroll down a list, just touch the map button and you’ll be able to see events or restaurants in your proximity. Once you’ve found what you’re looking for you can read a brief description, get directions, and a phone number. You can share where you plan on going via email, tweet it, or post it to Facebook.

This iPhone app is easy to maneuver through, each page takes a bit to load, but I have confidence that’s just because it’s finding so much stuff for me to do. However, if you’re looking for something to do outside of the US you’re out of luck, this app only pools things to do in the States.

Adventure and extreme, arts and culture, family fun, offbeat attractions, outdoor recreation, the list of categories Goby offers goes on and on. Just for kicks, I searched ghost towns, and it turns out there is one nearby. Oh, I forgot the best part of Goby… it’s free!
