Deezer is a French on demand music streaming service that has come out with a free iPhone app. The Deezer service has supposedly signed agreements with major labels and charges user a subscription fee that lets you stream you own MP3 files over its network to your iPhone with the Deezer app. If you don’t have a paid plan, the app still lets you listen to a variety of web and smart radio stations on your iPhone or iPod touch.
Once you launch the app you need to either register with Deezer or log in to your account. The iPhone app has 5 tabs. The Web radios app lists 10 major genres that each expand into more granular genres. The web stations offered are
Chanson francaise
Electro/Techno,
Hard and Metal
Jazz, Pop
Radios thematiques
Reggae Ska & Dub
Rock
Soul Fun and Disco
Urbain
Unfortunately, the radio stations like some of the other content on this app are not fully translated to English from their French base. You can also listen to Smart Radios. Type in any artist name and tap any artist from the search results to start listening to your very own stations. This is similar to US services such as Pandora.
Premium services are for paid Deezer people in the iPhone app. These include, access to your personal mp3 files and the ability to download your playlists to your iPhone. Another premium feature lets you search for any song, artist and album by name and start streaming it live on your iPhone. The paid Deezer service with iPhone support currently costs 9.99 € per month. The app is free and works when you have a WiFi or 3G network connection.
