Want access to set times, stage details and artist info for Lollapalooza on your iPhone? Grab the free Official Lollapalooza app and you’ll have a ton of information in your hands at all times. Lollapalooza 2011 is the 20th anniversary of the first and now notorious music festival initiated in 1991 by Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction. This year marks the 7th year that Lollapalooza is being held in Grant Park in Chicago, IL and the event is stronger than ever.
The 3 day festival now has its own iPhone app with a directory of event facilities and artists performing there. First and most useful feature of the app is the ability to see a calendar of set times for each artist on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This list can be filtered to show all 10 stages or just one them. If you prefer an alphabetical list of bands hit the lineup button and browse contacts style. Or you can just enter the name of a group or stage and search for it that way.
Ready more about any band and find their Twitter/Facebook pages, then tap to star any performance you plan to attend. You’ll end up with a nice list personalized to your liking under the My Schedule tab. If you login to your Facebook account or Lolla account you can even sync your schedule. Finally pick a reminder to be sent to your iPhone before your events kick off. The app also pushes out updated set list info once in a while, so you’ll stay in touch with last minute changes.
The interactive map of Grant Park is great for finding anything from restrooms, an ATM, food or a bar. You can also pick and choose filters for the types of things you want shown on the map. The icons on the map are linked to details pages. Pick any bar and you’ll see a price list of beers, water, wines etc. Food places also have a full menu although no prices. You can zoom and pan around the map and drop a pin anywhere, and then share that location with friends on Facebook, SMS, email etc.
Group Texting lets you start conversations with more than 1 person within the Lolla iPhone app. This feature uses GroupMe and is thankfully not limited to just iPhone users.
There’s also an Experience tab that is loaded with more features, mainly the Lolla Radio.
Lolla Radio lets you stream Slacker Radio music over the network and listen to artists from the last two decades of Lolla. The only issue here is that if you close the app the music stops. Finally you can buy T-shirts and have them shipped to you, although the merchandise is only Lollapalooza stuff, not specific to any band.
