Flipboard has been updated to a universal app and now works on the iPhone and iPod touch. The iPhone version of the Flipboard app lets you read news using a beautiful flip style interface that gets aggregated from a variety of sources including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google Reader, LinkedIn, Flickr, Tumblr, and more.
A new feature has been added to the Flipboard app on the iPhone called Cover Stories. With Cover Stories you get a snap glance at what is happening right now that is interesting and relevant to you based on your personal linked accounts. The Flipboard app then learns and fine tunes your Cover Stories in Flipboard as you start to mute people or sources you don’t want to hear from, and or star the ones you care about most. In the settings section of the Flipboard app you can manage a list of Muted Authors. The Cover Stories feature will soon be added to Flipboard on the iPad.
The Flipboard app on the iPhone is amazingly fun to use as you would expect, and works quite fast as well, thanks to the recent speed optimizations. Pick a source from the main page and flip up on the iPhone screen to go to the next story. To read a story just tap on it. Longer stories can then also be flipped through by page. Tap the Back arrow to get back where you left off.
When you star a story in Flipboard, it gets added as a favorite to your linked Twitter account. You can also ReTweet a story with or without comments, or email the story to someone. When viewing posts from a Facebook page you can either Like the post, or share it via email. Filtering what Facebook feeds you want in the app is also pretty simple. Flipboard lets you pick from a variety of Facebook feed sets including Your Wall, Photos of You, News Feed Photos, News Feed Links, Groups, Pages, Friend Lists or just specific friends.
