Astronomy Picture of the Day review

Astronomy Picture of the Day from Concentric Sky a is simple, free app that display’s NASA’s photo of the day. The latest version is for both the iPhone and iPad, but the iPad’s size really makes an impression. 

When you open the APOD application it displays the day’s Astronomy Photo of the Day in stunning clarity. If you are an astronomy nerd or just love amazing, high quality photos of the sky and stars then the app is well worth downloading. 

The top of the photo gives the title, which can sometimes be explanation enough, but if it isn’t, clicking “About this Image” button will roll up the photo to display a more complete explanation of the photo. If you want even more there is a link to the website and even more info.

If you miss a day or two you can toggle forward and back through past APOD’s to sweeten your day with controls on each side of the frame. If you really like the eye candy, the app has a share feature that lets you share the photo with friends via email or even save it to your device to use it as a background or home screen.

There is also a “Jump to Image” button that opens a date selector where you can plug in a particular date. You can also just choose Random and be surprised.

APOD is one of those fun apps that has no special function, but just brightens your day.
