Modality, Inc. has announced two new educational iPhone apps: Pocket Medical Spanish with Audio and Pocket Medical French with Audio applications. The apps are based on the successful printed Pocket Medical series, authored by Russell K. Dollinger, Ph.D. and published by Booksmythe.
“Clear communication is fundamental to providing appropriate care and the revolutionary iPhone gives us a unique opportunity to enhance patient treatment,” said Modality CEO and founder S. Mark Williams, Ph.D. “Our Pocket Medical with Audio series allows doctors, nurses, pharmacists, EMTs and other practitioners to quickly assess the patient’s condition and make the right decisions, without need for an interpreter or fluency in Spanish or French.”
Each Pocket Medical with Audio application by Modality combines text and audio pronunciations for more than 400 common terms and phrases. Content covers twelve sections, ranging from pain to chest problems to ob/gyn conditions. Questions are phrased to allow patients to answer “Yes,” “No,” or “I don’t know,” so health care providers need only understand those three terms in French or Spanish. Graphic tools like clocks, calendars, facial expressions, numbers and colors may be used to delineate patient symptoms. A searchable glossary and index provide fast reference to specific terms and conditions.
