The Trillian app for iPhone is here. Cerulean Studios has long been developing its powerful multi-platform IM client for Windows users, and they now offer a $5 app for the iPhone that gives you the same functionality on the go. Trillian for iPhone supports Windows Live, Yahoo!, MySpaceIM, AIM, Google, ICQ, Jabber, Skype, and IRC protocols. You can also manage your Email, Facebook (not Facebook chat), and Twitter accounts from the same app. The UI and graphics are clean and crisp as you would expect from Trillian. The app works with even slow network connections like EDGE.
Trillian supports push notifications, MMS picture messages, and the changes you make on your iPhone sync up to your PC using your Trillian account. This also means your sessions are never lost, so for example if you’re chatting with a friend on your iPhone, when you log into your Trillian on your PC, all your messages and setings will already be there for your reference.
The contact list shows avatars and supports collapsing groups. You can set avatars using your iPhone camera or form your previously taken photos in your camera roll. Manage groups and easily place the same contact in as many groups as you like. You can assign nick names and store multiple contact accounts for the same contact. You can search for contacts or add them to your favorites.
Chat screens have built in support for tabs and give you typing notifications, copy and paste and a virtual keyboard that you can easily collapse. Other cool features include the ability to set automatic times for going offline in a day, and you can set custom away messages to be used when you close the app. You can also change the sounds that you hear when events such as receiving a new message occur, although you can’t adjust the sound volume per sound event which would be helpful.
Missing features in the first release:
Can’t see your offline contacts
No landscape mode
No support for modifying groups
No support for Mac.com iChat
Overall Trillian is a fine IM and social networking app for the iPhone that delivers the essential features you would expect in a good IM application.

Posted on March 4th, 2009 at 2:55 pm by AppminBeing a long time user of trillian I am very much looking forward to the iPhone version. I hate waiting but I would rather have it right than fast. All I ask is more regular updates if possible on the progress just so I know it is being worked on and is still an active project.
Thanks
