BellWeather Alarm is a free alarm clock app, developed by Sebastian Buks for an iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad with at least iOS 4.0. This app combines weather and an alarm clock by using GPS to track weather changes. After toying with it for the past day or so I am not convinced I need it.
If you love thunderstorms and care enough to miss sleep in order to catch one then I can see how BellWeather Alarm can serve a real purpose for you. Its star feature is that you can set alarms for specific weather that you love and hate. The alarm then makes sure to wake you up for your favorite weather and leaves you sleeping through the weather you dislike. There is a choice to set a final alarm time if none of the weather conditions matched or if there is a glitch. The options for the weather are broad: Sunny, Cloudy, and Rainy.
You can set an alarm for each condition. So if you love the sun you can set the alarm to wake you up an hour earlier when it is sunny. For sound choices, you get everything from an Old Rooster to Catarina’s Dream. You can set the volume and use any of the music from your iPod library as well. You cannot exit out of the app when using it or it will not work. You have to leave it open and place your device on its side. If you need the time at any point throughout, you can flip your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad and the screen will light up with a digital read of the time and the day.
Supposedly, according to the iTunes page for BellWeather Alarm, it is a big hit in Nordic countries, which I can understand as people there do not get a lot of sun. The sun may come out for a few hours in the early morning then disappear. So if you are Scandinavian and looking to get some vitamin D into your system, you should be sure to snatch up Weatherclock and put it to work for you.
