FEATURED APP
MobileMe iDisk

If you have an iPhone or iPad with a MobileMe account, the MobileMe iDisk is a free app that gives you access to all your iDisk files on your device. You can view many files types including Office (Word, Excel) iWork (Pages, Numbers), PDF, Images, Music, Movies and more. After you choose to view a file, it is downloaded to your iPhone or iPod touch. You can view the files in landscape by rotating your device. Pinch and swipe to navigate file contents. There is a Recent tab that shows files you’ve already download, which avoids having to do so again.

iDisk also makes sharing files a breeze from your iPhone or iPod touch. Tap the share icon for any file to email a link to the file to a friend. You can optionally set a password and the length of time the link will be valid before it expires. Your Shared files tab lists all the files you’ve shared previously and from there you can un-share files very easily as well.

Update: Starting with the latest version of the iDisk app (1.2), Apple has added the ability to stream music files on your MobileMe account directly to your iPhone or iPad. This works with both .MP3 and .AAC files. I tested this on both WiFi and 3G connections on both the iPad and iPhone. The stream coming from me.com is super fast. The audio quality of the stream sounds a little reduced but that could just be me. You can share music files like anything else, set passwords and expire after a set number of days. The iDisk app now supports local storage of up to 500MB on your idevice for offline viewing, although Audio and Video files are streamed and not stored locally. Note: This music streaming feature was quietly released last month and there wasn’t much hype around it until now. Other services like Google and Dropbox have already supported cloud music storage/streaming. In the case of the DropBox iPhone app, you can ‘star’ store music files which makes them stored locally for offline listening.
