Vonage for iPhone review

Got a Vonage account and have an iPhone? Now you can use the Vonage Mobile iPhone app and save more than 50% on international calls to dozens of countries. The iPhone app works over 3G or WiFi and can make international calls with a pay as you go plan.

If you’ve been using calling cards for international cards, Vonage can be a good alternative. The Vonage Mobile iPhone app requires you to have an account with Vonage, or create a new account. You get a personal phone number and the iPhone app imports your contacts after you login to your Vonage account. Call your friends, family or business contacts around the world without paying high rates from your mobile phone company.

There is also Vonage app for iPod touch users. This seems a little awkward that you have to have a different app depending on which device you have, but at least they support both of them.

Vonage Mobile is free to join and you only pay as you go. There is a catch so careful: You will use up your AT&T minutes when you make a call using the cellular network. When making calls over Wi-Fi you don’t use up any minutes.

Also be sure to check out Skype and their free iPhone app which uses similar voice over IP technology to make calls over Wi-Fi. The downside of the Skype app is that you can’t make calls over 3G. Both Vonage and Skype iPhone apps require you to open the specific apps to make calls.
