LiveSketch

Overcome by an urge to doodle something? Try Yan Rabovik’s LiveSketch, an app that’s bound to fulfill most of your sketching yearnings. It’s as simple as putting pencil to paper, except in this case, it’s finger to iPhone screen. Just drag your finger across the screen to simulate drawing with a pencil. Move faster, and the line will be thin; move slower and a more discernible line will appear. The app will also fill in some interesting smudges if you rotate or vary the pressure of your finger, as if you were using the side of a pencil.

Tap the screen for the toolbar, which you can use to erase a mistake (just tap the Erase button and draw your finger over whatever you want to erase) or change the background. So far, there are five backgrounds to choose from; promised future updates include more backgrounds, brush styles, and colors. You can save your creation to your Photo Album using the Save button on the toolbar–if you want a higher quality PNG version saved, hold the iPhone’s Home button while pressing the Lock button on top.

With the added realism of smudging, LiveSketch lets you unleash your creativity in a unique fashion…it seems like no matter what your finger movement, a marvelous work of art awaits you at the end. If you just want to go with the flow or to create something abstract, this art app would be perfect. I’d like the option to import a photo to work on, or at least an autosave function so that I don’t have to start all over if I exit the app. Because it is so simple, LiveSketch is a bit overpriced at $3.99, but maybe with added upgrades it’ll be worth grabbing. Otherwise, have fun letting your imagination (and fingers) run wild.
