VEVO is a music video website and now available on the iPhone with the VEVO app. The service funnels in music videos from artists in the portfolio of Sony Music, Universal Music, and EMI with advertisements and links to purchase songs via iTunes. The user interface is beautiful and the artwork is high end. The problems with VEVO have to do with limited content due to the few record labels involved and the ads you’ll have to watch.
VEVO is basically like a Hulu for music in many ways. You get high quality videos, better than you’ll find in YouTube, but you have to watch ads. The content is presented nicer and is easier to navigate. Slideshows and featured content make the user experience a bit more enjoyable, although you are basically just watching what the VEVO folks are promoting at the time.
If top 40 is your thing or you’re just curious to see what mainstream music looks like you will probably enjoy the VEVO app and get a lot of value from it. There is a way to find artists by name and see which ones are on tour. You can add videos to playlists for watching them together at a later time. Unfortunately, the VEVO app does not support video output to an Apple TV. VEVO HD is the iPad version of VEVO.
