The Free Visualizer of Geometrica is an iPhone app that displays geometric patterns and shapes that can be used as a screensaver. Developed by Innovatty, LLC, the program is very simple and offers several basic controls to get different geometric patterns and designs. It is designed to work on the iPad and iPod Touch.
When you first start the iPhone app, it pops up the Quick Guide that gives the user instructions on how to create the different patterns and geometric effects. The Swipe Gesture will create a spinning design, the Pinch Gesture will create a zooming effect and by shaking or rapidly touching the screen three times, it will change modes.
To capture a particular design, the Home and Lock Buttons can be pressed simultaneously to save the image to the user’s photo album. This provides a way to use the customized image as a screen saver. First, I tried shaking the phone to change modes. It switched to the different modes such as single color mode with no particles, multi-color mode with no particles, single color mode with particles inside and outside and multi-color mode with particles inside and outside. I soon found out that it cycles through those four modes in the order listed.
Next I tried the pinching gesture and it changed the radius of the circular pattern as I moved my fingers. When I tried the swipe gesture, I found that I could change the speed and direction that the pattern spinned. Finally, I tried the Home and Lock Button to capture the image. It saved that image to my photo album as stated by the application. I found the Free Visualizer of Geometrica application to be very simple to use and it rendered very colorful and stunning patterns. To achieve different and fascinating visual effects was easy to do by using the gestures. It worked great on my iPhone and I’m sure it would do well on the iPod Touch and especially on the iPad with its larger screen size.
Overall, the free version of Visualizer of Geometrica is a fun program to play with and offers good value since it’s free. However, I feel that after using it for a few minutes, I probably wouldn’t spend much more time using it in the future. It may be more enjoyable for young children who would likely be fascinated trying different swipes and pinches to create the geometric effects. Unless the paid version of the program provides something more significant or attention-grabbing, I don’t feel it has much reusability and many would tire of using it after a few days. Users can download it in the iTunes App Store. 3.0
