Pinball games for the iPhone are not hard to find, but few come as close as B.I.T.S. Pinball in terms delivering a realistic live action Pinball experience that might remind you of the real deal arcade style machines stuck in the back of a bar. BITS incorporates fast ramps, gully guards, multiple flippers, ball multipliers within 5 action packed levels. What’s exciting about B.I.T.S. (Ball in the System) is it makes you feel like you’re actually playing and hypes you up with a wide variety of industrial sound effects, all the while pumping a robot techno track (think The Prodigy) in the background.
You get 3 flippers, two on the bottom and one on the top left. Control and gameplay is really fluid, tap anywhere on the left or right side of the screen to activate the flippers. You get 3 balls per game (yes we too wish it was 5), launching them by pulling and releasing the spring loaded rod on the right side of the board. The game used to suffer from the ball moving too fast, but that issue has thankfully been fixed in the latest release of BITS. The graphics are colorful and match the music looking like a futuristic industrial factory on a spaceship.
If you’ve always wanted to be a kick ass pinball player but were too shy to go out and get practice in the real world, BITS will help you improve your game right on your iPhone. The game has super accurate physics for an iPhone screen and can be quite challenging as well at first. Tapping the top left of the screen pauses the game and lets you go back to the main menu where you can flip through a nice list of graphical help screens.
There are a ton of power-ups in each level. The game has 5 levels and as you move up the levels you’ll start racking up major points, so the key as with any Pinball game initially is survival. When you see the hologram shoot the ball through it for major points. There are 3 phases of holograms. For some serious fun activate the ball cloner and you’ll have a minute to clone your ball as much as you want. For the ultimate rush, finish all 5 levels (aka 5 B.I.T.S) and you’ll end up in a mode called Multi-ball Mayhem, where a new ball is added each second for 20 seconds.
There is an online scoreboard and option menus for adjusting the volume for music and effects. If you’re looking for a good challenging pinball iPhone app that you can play for a long time, be sure to check out B.I.T.S. from Blue Bear Studio.
