Anrufen Online

If you’ve been looking for an MMORPG on the iPhone, you may be interested in Anrufen Online. Originally released by WiSTONE Wireless Entertainment for the Symbian OS, there are currently 3 servers: English, Chinese and Russian, all of which are cross-platform. Combined with its in-game chat system, users on any device can easily communicate and play together. You can choose between a melee or spellcasting class, each containing their own specialized skill sets and as with all MMORPGs, has both NPC and PvP realtime combat. You earn experience points and level by questing and monster kills. Leveling will earn skill points and access to better gear and weapons. Players will also have a chance to acquire a Familiar to raise and summon for aid in battle. Though the app is free to download and play, players are restricted to only a few maps and getting full access to the game will run you a good $12.99 per 90 days.

The iPhone release of Anrufen Online looks to be a straight port of the original product released for the Symbian OS. As a result, its general interface is not quite optimized for the iPhone, making it feel crowded and a bit awkward to navigate. As claimed, Anrufen Online does fairly effectively bring an online PC gaming experience to mobile phone gaming. Its use of an isometric perspective to simulate its 3D environment as well as sprites and environment graphics are reminiscent of those in, say, the original Age of Empires or Diablo games. Its sound effects are realistic and the music changes depending on the area you’re in but if you’re tired of the eerie, discordant loop that plays in the fields, you can select one of your playlists to listen to in-game.

Anrufen Online’s game mechanics are surprisingly thorough and as a mobile MMORPG, it is pretty extensive with a solid foundation to build upon. However, its pricey subscription and inefficient layout limits it as an iPhone app and I’d recommend some serious consideration before signing up.
