Tehra: Dark Warrior from StormBASIC is a 3D Hack and slash iPhone game starring a female fantasy figher named Tehra who’s up against a never ending horde of beasts and dragons protecting the humans in Sistar from the Urka’h demons using her notabely large and deadly sword and super powers. The plot and game story is explained to you using an innovative graphical format with a scrolling script when you start the game.
The Dark Warrior, Tehra is controlled with a virtual directional controller, an attack button and a defense button, as she passes through unique 3D maps killing with spawned enemies before killing the boss at the end of each level. As an added bonus Tehra can gain demon powers and becomes super powerful, as she switches modes from human to demon. As with other fantasy slasher games, after killing stronger enemies you’ll find healing potions and powerups to help you stay alive long enough to get through a level.
The graphics and music in Tehra Dark Warrior are absolutely top notch. The music is reminiscent of a blockbuster flick or better yet God of War. Graphics are really good for an iPhone game and quite eye catching. The movement around the game is pretty fluid using the control pads and the attacks and blocks are also pretty standard. The camera angles follow your movements without a hitch and feel very lifelike. In some rare cases it’s difficult to see behind you, in which case you have to move around and refocus the shooting angles. With the addition of healing potions and powerups, the game does lack in the area of weaponry that Tehra can use. It would also benefit if there was a jump move, or perhaps some other types of evasive actions to perform. There are no difficulty settings to choose, and the overall game is probably set at a high difficulty rating. Enemies are relentlessly respawned over and over, and health boosts are far and few. This makes for an overall intense gameplay. You’ll also want to make sure you live through the level without dying as there are no checkpoints. The game does however maintain and remember your cleared levels when you close the app.
There are also five mini-games called “challenges” that you can play any time to improve your fighting skills. The options allow for toggling “gore mode” on/off and changing music and sound volume levels. Overall Tehra Dark Warrior shines in the graphical and control based slasher category of iPhone games, which includes similar titles such as Hero of Sparta. For fans of hack ‘n slash games looking for a challenging iPhone and iPod touch game with an original storyline and wonderful graphics, Tehra Dark Warrior is a good buy and with a few modifications by the developer it can even become a must have app.
