Doodle Pool

Doodle Pool is a simple pool-table game for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. This is released by Big Head Games Ltd, and features OpenFeint leaderboards and iOS4 Multitasking as of Version 1.1. You can change the rules from US 8 Ball rules, US 9 Ball rules, and UK 8 Ball rules, and you can play against the CPU or against another player and has a time attack mode. It costs $0.99 as of 8/6/2010.

This is a simple game that uses the ‘Doodle’ theme that seems to be very popular amongst the App lists. Doodles seem to do a whole bunch of things… Jump, Fly, form armies, become Gods of elements, draw, run, and dump… yes… dump… aka, poop.

Doodle Pool

You play the game by dragging your finger across the screen to prepare to hit the cue ball, rotating around to aim the ball, and the longer you drag the finger, the stronger you will hit the ball. You have a white line pretty much outlining where the ball will go, then a colored line from the ball you are about to hit telling you where that ball will go. The game doesn’t calculate if you will nudge another ball on the way, nor will it tell you where it will go if you try bouncing off the walls of the pool table, so it won’t all be easy. Besides that, the game features nothing else.

This is an extremely simple game with extremely simple features. The two player game is actually not too bad since it’s just a straight forward pass back and forth style two player mode. The CPU is pretty harsh. If you miss even once, the CPU, no matter what level of difficulty, can immediately jump all over the game and score a whole load of points immediately. It’s very difficult to read which ball is which on the tiny iPhone screen and they always seem to highlight two balls. Even if you hit one of the two, there is a chance that the ball you hit in will be the wrong ball and you will be punished for it. Seems odd since I’m not an avid pool player.

This is an alright game. The graphics are the crumpled paper overlay on bare-basic graphics of a pool table. I’ve played flash games for free online with this exact same play style, and some of those featured explosions, fighting off monsters, and powered up ricocheting.
