Learn with Bobot is an app that offers educational workbooks for 3-5 year olds. There are 40 workbook cards for 3-year-olds and 72 for 4-5 year olds. It was developed by Extrabold, costs $0.99, and is compatible with an iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.
As the young, yet skilled player of this game, your child is to complete mind-teaser exercises in order to put Bobot the “forgetful” robot’s pieces back together. The robotic voice on Bobot is a guide that accompanies every aspect of the app. I can see a child getting entertainment as well as learning out of Bobot.
The cards include practices where the player is shown drawings and given instructions on how to complete the exercises. In the group of cards for 3 year olds, they have to choose either, the card that does not match the rest, the biggest and smallest objects, the number 1 out of a group of numbers, match fruits with their correct colors, and so on. If the answer is correct, then a green check mark is given and the next card pops up. If the answer is wrong then a red “x” is given and the player cannot move on until the mistake has been fixed. The child then gets a part of the robot, like its elbow. There are 8 parts of the robot to claim and 5 exercises for each of the 8 levels. The exercises get a little more challenging with each level but the basic practice of matching and discerning is the same. The cards for 4-5 year olds are naturally a little more challenging. The same format of drawings with instructions is used, but the questions asked, “Choose the animal that weighs the most,” involve more developed thinking skills. All of the cards seek to enhance mathematical, spatial, and emotional concepts. Even though there are 112 cards total, the developers release updates that give your child a new set of practices.
Considering how much you get out of this app I think it is a bargain. Bobot is a babysitter and teacher rolled into one (governess). The educational aspect of Bobot should help with any guilt you may feel for sticking your kid in front of your iPhone in order for you to get some work done or just some peace and quiet.
