Real Racing 2 for the iPhone is here from Firemint and sells for $9.99 in the App Store. The game is packed with 30 licensed cars from BMW, Chevy, Ford, Jaguar, Lotus, McLaren, Nissan, Volkswagen and Volvo. You race against up to 16 different cars using the built in AI and better yet go head to head with 16 other players in multiplayer mode. Race in 3 new tracks and a variety of locations like speedways, city circuits, forest, desert, and mountains during the day, night, or twilight hours. Three new circuits added in Real Racing 2 include San Arcana, King’s Speedway and Balladonia Raceway.
One of the cool new features is vehicle damage. If you collide with high enough impact, with either another car or even the barriers you’ll see scratches to the paint, broken glass, and you might even lose a bumper or two. Controls are fully customizable. You have 5 options. Pick either tilt steering or touch wheel steering. Auto acceleration, or touch to speed up. Tap to brake. Vibration mode lets you feel the hits. You can also set some options for easier driving like Horizon Tilt, Steering Sensitivity, and Assistance. A customizable HUD is provided and you get 5 camera angles and full playback functions.
Playing the game is pretty self explanatory thanks to the well laid out navigational menus. Choose from 5 game modes: Career, Quick race, Time Trial, Local Multiplayer, and Online Multiplayer. In time trial mode you can upload a video of your performance to YouTube.
Career mode is where the bulk of the action takes place in RR2 said to contain over 10 hours of gameplay. As with other racing titles, you race to earn prize cash and build your rep to unlock tracks, and build up your car collection. There are 5 tiers (Club Division, State Showdown, Grand National, Pro Circuit, and World Series) holding 44 events total. There are 5 race types: Cup, Head to Head, Championships, Time Trial, and Eliminations. Cups and Championships are played against 15 opponents. You have to win 2 championships in the previous Tier to move to the next one. Events can have a variety of performance and REP minimums.
Buying and Selling cars, and customizing your collection of cars all happens using prize money you’ve collected while racing in career mode. You can upgrade individual parts and even paint your car to look and work like the real world. There are even licensed vehicles from race teams that are fully customizable.
Overall, Real Racing 2 for the iPhone is a must have game for any racing fan as it is perhaps the most feature packed and lifelike racing title on a mobile platform to date and is a bargain at the ten dollar price range.
