MOJOBANK have created GermCraft, a really sweet little match 3 puzzler with varied gameplay and creative design that can be a ton of fun as an impulse distraction that grows on your very quickly. You can set off all kinds of crazy combos, earn power-ups as you survive levels and get higher scores. The music is hype and the pace is mind melting.
Gameplay derives from Bejeweled and expands on it giving you a few more tidbits to continuously keep the game’s pace near the high level. You swipe to swap any 2 blocks (germs) on the board. Match and remove the goal number of block in 100 seconds or less to move to the next level. Each level has a higher goal number making it more difficult than the last to survive, although you will also earn special bonus blocks as you go to help you. The movements in square based levels can be made going up/down/left/right, while in hexagon levels you can move in 6 directions including diagonal moves. As soon as you figure out how to play one style, GermCraft changes to the other one. This definitely helps in keeping you on your toes.
Hints in the game show you what possible moves you can make. You get more hints for good play. I have to say though sometimes the hints given are not that helpful unless you are able to see the right moves to make. By that I mean even though you’re told that a given piece should be moved, you still have to figure out where to move that piece, which can be in any of 6 directions at times, making the hint not that effective. Having said that, they do help in square levels a lot and can potentially get you out of a tight spot.
During the game if you match 4 or more blocks, some germ blocks get infected and start to bubble up looking like they’re going to explode. If you match that block in a series, it causes a domino effect wiping out a whole bunch of matching colors.
There are also a few bonus rewards in the game. You are sometimes rewarded with special block types for good performances at the end of levels. There are many special blocks and you get different ones at various stages in the game each time you play. For example the rainbow blocks can basically be moved just about anywhere to clear any colors you want.
In Blitz Mode you try to score as many points as you can in one minute.
One of the main issues I had with GermCraft was missed moves, and or wrong moves being made especially in the hexagon levels. This is not really the game’s fault. It’s just hard to swipe the right piece sometimes if have larger fingers. The only way I can think of to fix this is to make the pieces a tiny bit larger. Other that that one issue, GermCraft is pretty much flawless. If you loved Bejeweled, GermCraft is a must have.
