Washington Post

Read the Washington Post on your iPod touch and iPhone with the official Wash Post app. The menu lets you read the headlines categories by top stories, politics, opinions, sports, local, lifestyle, national, world, business, technology, entertainment, health, books, movies, food, weddings, travel and obituaries. From the blogs tab you can read the popular Washington Post blog posts covering Sports, Politics, Local, LifeStyle, Business and Tech. You can further dig into the blogs and read specific blogs one at a time. The app is free though there is a small persistent advertisement on the bottom of the article pages.

MyPost is a section of the Wash Post app where you can read and remember articles you’ve read. Just swipe the teaser area of any article, or tap the star icon to save it for later reading. While you are there you can also email, Tweet or Facebook the article as well. To find exactly what you want, use the Search tab and locate articles by keyword.

While reading you can increase the font size, and tap the screen to hide away all the menu items. From the menu you can also jump to the next/previous article in the section quickly. You can’t save your searches in the app which would be useful. There is no way to view archived content from Washington Post, unless you find results by searching. Want some eye candy? The Photos tab is where you can view slideshows and photo galleries by topic from the Washington Post updated daily. The app supports pull down to refresh and it works in landscape mode, although the content is not dynamically updated to fill the screen when in landscape mode.

Washington Post

While there are a few issues with this app, namely navigation and small missing features, it does work well for the most part and its free. Worth downloading if you are a regular reader of the Washington Post.

Note: alternatively, you could just read the WP from your Mobile Safari browser by surfing over to mobile.washingtonpost.com which renders nicely on the iPhone and iPod touch.
