What the heck is all this Quinella Exacta Trifecta business you ask? Horse Betting Made Easy is a two dollar iPhone app that aims to teach newcomers the ins and outs of betting on horse races. With the Kentucky Derby coming up, you might be looking for an app to help you get accustomed to the funky terminology used in gambling on horses. This app is a good quick step by step tutorial on horse racing for absolute beginners.
The Horse Betting Made Easy app is designed using an easy to follow step by step tutorial that asks you questions and tells you what bet types are available to you and also lets you plan how to place your bets.
In the Bet Types screen you tell the app how many horses you like for the race (1-4 or more), then you pick the type of bet from the available list, and read a quick sentence or two on what that bet type actually means. This step by step wizard is useful in making this intimidating world of horse betting a bit less scary. It would also be good if the app had a table layout of the various types of bets for easy comparison.
The app also contains a lengthy glossary section which can be helpful when trying to get up to speed with the lingo. Here you’ll learn pretty interesting terms. For example a Rabbit is a horse that is considered to have little chance of winning a race, but is there to tire out other front-runners. How about a Furlong? That’s a measure of distance in horse racing, which is one-eight of a mile or 220 yards.
The app lacks information about upcoming races like winning odds, horses, jockeys and all the actual information you’ll need to place a bet. The app does have a list of the tracks in United States, New Zealand, and Australia that you can pick from but that’s about it. If you’re just looking for something to basically keep track of your bets this app might be useful, since it lets you save your hypothetical bets in a My Bets area. But if you’re thinking you can actually place bets on a race with this app, look elsewhere. The app has done a good job of laying out all the various bet types and creating a simple to follow wizard that anyone can quickly use.
Overall, we think for what it offers, the Horse Betting Made Easy app is not worth its current $2 price tag, unless you’re absolutely dying to learn about horse racing and don’t mind paying the fee. Horse betting terminology is quite complicated and the words don’t quite make logical sense if you’re an absolute beginner, which would make you the target audience for this app.
