Sound off with the Vlingo iPhone app, and get stuff done on your iPhone without ever laying a finger on it. Well you do actually have to tap the “Press + Speak” button. The Vlingo iPhone app has a variety of voice activated tricks up its sleeve. Similar to the Google app, Vlingo does web searches, but this app can look up maps and local listings, update your Facebook and Twitter status, and even call people in your Contact list.
So if you don’t have the iPhone 3G S with its powerful built in Voice Control features, and want to get some of the same features on your iPhone or iPhone 3G, give Vlingo a shot. The response time on Vlingo isn’t as fast as it is on the built in Voice Control app for 3G S because the Vlingo app has to upload some data to its servers, making the wait time to action around 3 seconds. Also Voice Control has the ability to control iPod and do a bunch of other nifty things which Vlingo lacks at this time.
Vlingo scans your contact list the first time around and uses the information to improve its accuracy as you start using it. Voice-powered dialing, search, and social messaging capabilities make Vlingo a powerful and handy iPhone app. Vlingo is free so go ahead and try it out for yourself and find out how impressive it really is.
Important: Read the Terms of Service in the Vlingo app carefully before using it. One of the main points of controversy found there is the fact that Vlingo will upload your contact list to its servers to “optimize” its text-to-speech database, and it promises not be evil with your data, although this is still causing quite a bit of concern for some users.
