Firepower is an augmented reality based shooting game for the iPhone developed by Magnificent Library. The game is not so much of a game as it is a gun that fires at objects you see in the camera view on your iPhone. It doesn’t really fire at the objects either really, well you can say it just fires. You see tip of an automatic machine gun, a target in the middle of the screen, and two giant buttons that say FIRE on them. Tapping fire, will vibrate the heck out of your iPhone and start blasting away at what ever you’ve locked your target on. Little red dots that are supposed to resemble blood start to spew out of your target.
Firepower as it stands, while having buzz appeal, and “hey check out this app” brag rights, doesn’t have much reuse ability. What’s good about Firepower is the fact that it has taken augmented reality and used it in a game. Up until now, we’ve seen all sorts of maps and business listing apps that use the augmented reality for practical and useful purposes. So if practical and useful isn’t your target, and you’re just looking for a way to fire off some shots and let off some rage, check out this app. It has potential to become something worth playing if the devs add features that would actually change the nature of stuff you shoot in your view, or perhaps even maintaining the state of the red dots that currently just disappear after a few seconds.
