Roswell Fighter review

Do you enjoy arcade style fighter plane games for the iPhone? Take a look at the Roswell Figher iPhone app from GameLab, a 2D/3D air fighter game including accelerometer based controls and fast paced action. The game features a swinging 50’s soundtrack and polished retro graphics in 9 challenging levels. After crop circle sightings, alien ships have now started attacking disguised as normal crafts. The game is easy to learn but difficult to master.

While playing the game you will have to survive UFO landings and spaceship crashes. While you can control your fighter plane using tilt controls, it is not as fluid and fast enough to maneuver the onslaught of enemy fire, so we opted for the touch controls. Other options let you enable and disable the tooltips, music, sound effects, voice, intro and vibrations. The voice feedback is from a sexy female voice that keeps repeating things like “Keep on Truckin'” and “Go For It”, which can become repetitive pretty quickly. The action level is on the high side of intense, with a non-stop barrage of planes, heat seeking space balls and ground artillery blasting away at you. If you make it to the end, you will need to deal with powerful bosses to clear each level. Throughout the game you collect stars for points, and can find special weapons, health boosts, bombs and other power-ups. To use your special weapon, such as the laser, just double tap the screen. To drop bombs and annihilate all enemies, shake the iPhone.

It might not be easy to notice, but Roswell Fighter has 3 difficulty levels you can play. It appears that to choose the levels you tap on one of 3 pilot icons on the bottom right of the screen when you choose a level (green, yellow and the red one being a skull). We played in the green level and found it to be quite challenging. The strengths of the game are in its fluid gameplay and detailed graphics.
