Most people think that being a ninja consists of melting into the shadows, never catching attention. Sometimes, though, a ninja will find him- or herself right in the thick of it–like running opposite of the flow of traffic in the middle of a busy street. Steve Hoffman’s Traffic Ninja game app challenges you to be that ninja, giving you only one action to avoid messy collisions, enemy ninjas, and curmudgeonly sensei’s: jumping. Tap the screen where it says Jump; if you want to jump higher and longer, tap and hold your finger on the screen. You have two stages to run around in, both with a Cadet and an Elite level.
This iPhone app has simple down to an art. From the art to the gamplay to the music, nothing is really all that complex. Yet in spite of the sketch-like graphics and the looped game track, Traffic Ninja requires an earnest application of quick reflexes and a good sense of timing; looking ahead to check traffic conditions is a must, but the iPhone screen is only so wide (the game suggests that you also use the tops of cars as a platform). This app is a one-finger game, albeit a fast-paced one…a single misstep will cost you the game and earn the disappointment of your sensei. As such, this game is perfect to play in those random free moments when you need to keep your hands mindlessly busy. Hopefully more stages and levels will be released soon, as the novelty of such a game is rather short.
