It’s a tad late for Halloween (or really early, depending on the way you look at it), but Danny Roy’s iPhone app, Ghost Puzzlers is good for any season. A matching game at its core, your goal is to clear the board of all tiles by matching the characters; matched tiles will disappear. But there are only a few legal moves you can make: you can only match tiles that are next to each other or ones that aren’t divided by another character, and any lines between the two tiles cannot bend more than twice. On a playing board with 48 tiles, this might get a little tricky. Too add to the difficulty, the points you can garner decrease by 10 as you spend more and more time on a move…the time limit for any move is 10 seconds; after that, you receive no points. There is also a hint function, but it’ll cost you 50 points every time it’s used.
Ghost Puzzlers is a fun time killer that also requires a bit of brain work. Watching that timer click down while you’re deliberating is oddly exhilarating, so thsi iPhone app is not without some excitement–10 seconds is a very short amount of time. The graphics are very cute, and the overall Halloween theme practically shines, with both the character designs and especially the background music. The soundtrack can get a bit repetitive, but it manages to be both a ball and creepy; it’d be well-suited for an episode of the Addams’ Family.
