Tilt To Live

With a bazillion apps running around the App Store and more being developed everyday, it’s hard to stand out from the crowd. Ladies and gents, One Man Left has achieved that with their game app Tilt To Live–and not just because it’s bright green. Purely accelerometer-based, Tilt To Live is all about reflex, swiftness, and having a sense of humor.

Tilt To Live

There are three game modes to choose from: Classic, Code Red, and Gauntlet. For all three, you are essentially a cursor trying to avoid all the red dots coming your way. The red dots have only one objective in life: to kill you dead. One touch is all it takes. To move, all you have to do is tilt your device, as simple as that; adjust the sensitivity in Options. Unfortunately, in Classic, the red dots are pre-programmed to follow your movements like a pigeons on a bread crumb, so good luck with that.

But don’t worry, you’re not alone! You get friendlies flying with you in Classic, such as Orbs, Spike Shields, Cluster Missiles, etc. Just run into one with your cursor to activate it, and destroy as many red dots as you can with it, because more and more are coming if you’re managing to survive. Killing dots back-to-back multiplies your score, and with that you can get Awards to unlock new awesomely amazing weapons. If you want even more of a challenge, Code Red mode is Classic mode “on crack.” Gauntlet mode is exactly what it sounds like: fly through formations of red dots (which you can’t take out in this mode) as best you can, while collecting orbs that will extend your life bar (found at the bottom of the screen and emptying steadily).

The gameplay, the graphics, and the soundtrack are superb; you can tell that no detail was left untouched. The controls of Tilt To Live respond like a dream, and all three game modes feature different beats. One of the best things about this game app, aside from the fantastic gameplay, is that every inch of it is packed with funny: from calibrating your controls (you’ll be asked to “Assume the Position”; Custom is my personal favorite) to Awards to descriptions…even the loading screen was included. It makes a great experience even better. I can’t express strongly enough that this game should be in your Apple device right now–it’s totally addictive and completely worth the $1.99.
