Airborne Mutt review

Are you a daredevil dog at heart? Do you love free fall free for alls? If you answered, “yes” to either of these questions then it is time to give Airborne Mutt a spin! This app, provided by Custom Gaming LLC, is only $0.99 and can be used on an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

Airborne Mutt is a sky diving dog who looks like a dollar store Snoopy only this terrier totes a WWI rifle for the ride (presumably for decoration only). You score one hundred points for every second you stay sailing in the stratosphere and keep your tail wagging in the wind. Of course this is not easy because Mutt has to stay alert and swing clear of oncoming traffic.

Angry mice flying Red Baronesque planes along with rockets shot from the ground are some of the threats that riddle his course. Tilting your device left or right will make Mutt drift in that direction, respectively. Any slip of the wrist may result in an unfortunate collision and will have Mutt tumbling out of the sky with a torn parachute. Whilst dodging peril and certain death, Mutt has chance opportunities to snag bonuses to help him in his perpetual free fall. These may slow the game, allowing for more reaction time and point scoring, or may give Mutt an extra buffer from being taken out. The game play itself is reminiscent of old classics such as a racecar game on an Apple 2E where you must dart through traffic in order to survive. Mutt’s adventure through the sky is accompanied by an epic score to help you feel like you are really under the chute and every moment is critical.

There is no need for a tutorial when beginning this game, and if you are the type of player who is quickly drawn in by fast, repetitive games with limited scenery that will go on for as long as you are capable of maintaining your sanity and even beyond, then you will surely be drawn in immediately. Nonetheless this game poses its challenges, as even a veteran player will get taken out quickly at a moment’s loss of focus.
