Bird Zapper! by Bandai Namco is a game for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and the iPad. At first this app has a lot of things for you to keep track of, but after a couple of games you’ll get the hang of it. All you have to do is connect three or more birds of the same kind. Be careful of interrupting a squirrel that is listening to music especially if you’re a bird. Using a pair of electrical connectors you’ll teach those birds a lesson.
Controls for Bird Zapper! involve sliding across the screen to zap as many birds as you can. There are three modes to choose from. All of the modes are the same except for a few differences. Survival mode has an energy meter and the game ends when it runs out. You can recover energy by making a long chain or using a battery. To get a battery just zap one thousand birds in any mode or you can buy fifty of them for $0.99 from the app store. Blitz mode has a one minute timer so you have sixty seconds of zapping. Last but not least is zen mode where you select three to five rows and you play as long as you want. I suggest using this mode to practice, getting batteries, and completing achievements. Some powers are freezing, tapping a bird to shoot it, blowing them up, etc. Try to match birds as fast as you can so the multiplier will be at full in order to get the most points out of it. The tutorial helps explain most of this stuff. Sadly there is no leaderboards.
The graphics in Bird Zapper are colorful and well done. The images are fluid and move without any lag. Some of the birds you will zap are owls and crows. With the latest update, the birds are in Easter costumes which are ears and teeth. The visuals are silly but polished.
The sound effects in Bird Zapper are repetitive but catchy. The music is fun and amusing but might bore people after a few games. The sound effects are what I imagine them to be. There are owls hooting, crows caw, chirps and electricity going zzzt. The audio can be turned on or off which can also be done on the pause screen. There is no iPod music support. Overall, the audio is catchy and amusing but might be repetitive for others.
Bird Zapper! costs $0.99 in the App Store. The replay value comes from the fifty achievements. Some of them are easy and some are hard. This app might be difficult in the beginning but after awhile it is simple and amusing. I recommend this game to anyone who wants a relaxing game to play.
