1.1.3 Jailbreak

If you have upgraded to the latest iPhone firmware version 1.1.3 you will have noticed that your 3rd party apps and Installer.app no longer work. Well up till recently at least. Nate from Cre.ations.net has come up with hacks to jailbreak iPhone firmware update 1.1.3, and provides both a Windows version and a MAC version using iBrickr. According to Nate here’s what happens during the jailbreak. “The app gets the 1.1.3 iPhone firmware image and extracts, decrypts, and decompresses the disk image. Then it jailbreaks the disk image uploads this new modified image to the phone, flashes the phone with the image and reboots.”

Notes:
Use this at your own RISK!
It’s not very easy to do and not for the faint hearted.
You need to Start with a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 firmware iPhone, or downgrade first.
Also downgrade your iTunes to 7.5 or lower.
The MAC version is much simpler and involves only a few steps.

MAC users:

  1. Download, Open and run the installer.
  2. Go to Installer and install the “1.1.3 soft upgrade” package.
  3. The upgrade will stall at about halfway. THIS IS NORMAL. DO NOT INTERACT WITH YOUR PHONE WHILE THIS IS
  4. HAPPENING. Just leave it plugged in and leave it alone. (10-15 min)
  5. When the installer finishes your phone should reboot with a fresh activated 1.1.3 firmware.

WINDOWS users:

  1. Start with a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone with Installer.app installed (min. 300MB free spce).
  2. Plug in your phone via USB to your computer.
  3. Download, extract, and run iBrickr Special 1.1.3 jailbreak edition.
  4. iBrickr will determine what firmware you are running on your phone and make sure you can run the update.
  5. iBrickr will then guide you through the process of obtaining and modifying the 1.1.3 firmware.
  6. iBrickr will upload the new firmware image to your phone.
  7. When iBrickr finishes go to Installer and install the “1.1.3 soft upgrade” package.
  8. The upgrade will stall at about halfway. THIS IS NORMAL. DO NOT INTERACT WITH YOUR PHONE WHILE THIS IS HAPPENING. Just leave it plugged in and leave it alone. (10-15 min)
  9. When the installer finishes your phone should reboot with a fresh activated 1.1.3 firmware.

Use iPhone mods and hacks at your own risk! Installing 3rd Party iPhone apps requires you to jailbreak the iPhone before installing the native software and apps. You can use Installer.app for Mac OSX and iBrickr for Windows PC to do this. Browse the full list of all iPhone and iPod touch native 3rd party apps filed under the software category.
